After Ncuti Gatwa appeared to regenerate into Billie Piper during the 2025 finale of Doctor Who, fans have been left guessing who the next person taking on the titular role will be.
A star from the culture-defining Netflix show, Adolescence, has spoken about speculation they might be starring in the legendary BBC show.
Speaking to Radio Times, Erin Doherty, 33, said: ‘I’ve heard the Doctor Who rumour and I’m into sci-fi and fantasy but I can honestly say there have been no discussions!’
Ncuti was the last actor to play the role of Doctor Who, following in a long line of iconic stars who have taken on the role.
In 2017, Jodie Whittaker became the first female to play the Doctor, and the thirteenth to play the role.

David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith all preceded Whittaker with their takes on the time-traveller.
Unfortunately for us, there’s been no Doctor Who Christmas special this year, with the last series finishing in the summer.
However, fans were treated to spin-off series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which became one of the BBC’s biggest 2025 launches.
Next year we’ll be getting the festive dose of Russell T Davies that was missing from our screens, with a Doctor Who Christmas special by the epic writer.
Erin’s notoriety reached new levels when she played Briony Ariston, the child psychologist in Adolescence.
On rumours about the show coming back for a new series, she told Radio Times: ‘I haven’t heard anything about Adolescence either, but of course I would do it again.’
The 33-year-old won an Emmy for her performance and was nominated for a Golden Globe.
While accepting her speech, Erin dropped an expletive, and told the audience they were ‘all f***ing stunning’.
Radio Times brought that moment up with the actor. She admitted: ‘I really tried not to swear but it just came out!
‘I got back to the hotel and FaceTimed my sister to show her my award.
‘We were both screaming, then my mum said, “You did swear, though.”
‘So if I win anything again, I’ll shout out my mum and say sorry.’
Doctor Who is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and Adolescence can be streamed on Netflix.
