A member of the House of Representatives, Inuwa Garba, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State.
Garba, who represents Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency, was received on Thursday by Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, after officially joining the ruling party.
During the visit, the lawmaker presented his APC membership card to the governor. The card was obtained from his ward in Lubo, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, marking his formal entry into the party.
Explaining his decision to switch parties, Garba said he was motivated by the governorβs style of leadership and what he described as people-focused policies across the state.
He also referenced the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of his reason for joining the APC.
βThe APC represents the future of progressive governance in Nigeria. I am convinced that under the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our people will continue to enjoy meaningful development,β Garba said.
He added that he believes the APC provides a more stable and development-driven platform capable of delivering sustainable growth and inclusive governance.
The lawmaker pledged his full loyalty and commitment to the party and its leadership.
In his response, Governor Yahaya welcomed Garba into the APC, describing his defection as a courageous move and a demonstration of responsibility to his constituents.
He said the development was a strong endorsement of the APCβs performance in Gombe State and a validation of his administrationβs focus on infrastructure, human capital development, economic diversification, and inclusive growth.
The governor also noted that the move strengthens the APC in the state ahead of future elections.
