The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 18 warehouses in Niger State after uncovering large quantities of expired food products valued at over N100 million.
The enforcement operation, carried out in parts of Niger State, revealed that the affected warehouses were allegedly storing and distributing expired consumables to unsuspecting members of the public.
Officials described the discovery as a serious threat to public health and safety.
According to NAFDAC, the raid was part of its ongoing nationwide clampdown on substandard and expired products.
The agency noted that some of the items had been repackaged or relabelled to conceal their expired status before being returned to the market.
Authorities confirmed that the warehouses have been sealed, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. NAFDAC also warned that individuals found culpable would face strict legal consequences under existing regulations.
The agency urged consumers to remain vigilant, check product expiry dates before purchase, and report suspicious goods to the nearest authorities, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians.
