Eric Dane, known for being on shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53, his family confirmed to PEOPLE. He passed away on February 19, 2026, nearly one year after he announced his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis. Dane publicly revealed that he had ALS in April 2025.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family said in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” they added.

Dane became widely known for portraying Dr. Mark Sloan, also known as “McSteamy,” on Grey’s Anatomy. He joined the show in Season 2 and later became a series regular. He later featured as Cal Jacobs on Euphoria.

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the family statement continued. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always,” it further read.

After publicly sharing his diagnosis, Dane partnered with I Am ALS on fundraising and legislative efforts and set a goal of raising $1 billion for research. “I have been an open book about certain things in my life. This is something I felt compelled to share with people,” he told The Washington Post. “Not to be overly morbid, but you know, if I’m going out, I’m gonna go out helping somebody,” he added.
