The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that the sexual assault allegation involving TikTok user Mirabel (@mirab351), who claimed she was raped by a stranger in her apartment, has been referred to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.
According to the agency, preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred in Ogun State, prompting it to escalate the matter to the relevant authorities there.
The agency, led by Executive Secretary Titilola Adeniyi-Vivour, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the alleged incident took place outside Lagos State and therefore falls beyond its jurisdiction.
“Following our earlier statement and the widespread public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital,” the agency said.
The case sparked widespread public outrage on social media, trending under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen, with thousands of users demanding swift justice and stronger protections for women and girls.
The agency acknowledged the role of the public in helping track the case.
“We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the agency to ensure swift intervention.
“We have since confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
“In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State,” the DSVA stated.
The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is handling the case and called for the survivor’s cooperation to ensure a thorough investigation.
“We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process,” DSVA added.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating sexual violence, the agency urged survivors to report cases and assured them of support and confidentiality.
“We remain committed to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence and ensuring that accessible channels remain available for reporting and intervention,” the agency said.
The DSVA listed multiple channels for assistance, including its direct line, toll-free number, MTN USSD code, and WhatsApp AI chatbox for confidential support.
