The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has provided an update on the viral video of an alleged sexual assault shared on social media by a young woman identified as Mirabel.

On Monday, the survivor’s post circulated widely after she shared on her X account, @mirab351, that she was sexually assaulted on Sunday by a man who later sent her a message boasting about the act.

In the video, she said that she heard knocking at her door and believed it was her neighbour.

Having just awakened from sleep, she went to open the door.

Upon doing so, she was suddenly pushed, causing her to fall backwards and strike her head on a refrigerator, after which she lost consciousness and the man raped her.

The case triggered widespread outrage online, trending under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen on X, calling for justice.

In a post shared on its official X handle@Lagosdsva on Wednesday, DSVA said it had established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital.

The agency expressed appreciation to members of the public who supplied useful information through direct messages and those who tagged the agency online to ensure a swift response.

According to DSVA, preliminary findings reveal that the incident occurred in Ogun, placing it outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos-based body.

“All relevant information gathered has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun to ensure proper investigation and survivor protection.

“Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter,” it stated.

The agency added that it trusted the survivor would cooperate fully with authorities to facilitate a thorough investigation and due process.

DSVA reaffirmed its commitment to addressing domestic and sexual violence cases within Lagos State.

“The Lagos State Government maintains a zero tolerance stance against all forms of Domestic and Sexual Violence.

“Sexual Assault is a crime, and every survivor deserves protection, care, support and justice,” it stated.

It encouraged residents to continue reporting incidents through its dedicated support channels.

“The agency’s contact lines include 0813-796-0048, toll-free line 0-8000-333-333, USSD code *6820# (MTN users), WhatsApp AI Chatbox via 0812-893-7058, and its website, ekoselfreport.ng,” it stated.
