Best Medicine EP Breaks Down That Surprise Cameo in Episode 7

The latest episode of Best Medicine not only saw Dr. Martin Best’s (Josh Charles) worst nightmare come to life in the form of the Blood Factory event, but it also featured a surprise cameo from a Sex and the City alum. In a recent interview, executive producer Liz Tuccillo broke down Evan Handler‘s appearance in Best Medicine Episode 7, explaining how his unexpected cameo came to be.

While speaking with TV Insider, Tuccillo noted that Evan Handler’s cameo in Best Medicine materialized as he has been a long-term friend of the veteran writer and producer.

Notably, in Episode 7, Sally (Clea Lewis) claims that she knows renowned horror novelist Jeremy Gathercole. Greg (Stephen Spinella) tries to use this to his advantage and increase business opportunities by adding that Gathercole will be visiting the Blood Factory. In the end, the author does show up at the attraction, with Evan Handler taking up the role of Jeremy Gathercole.

Breaking down his cameo in Best Medicine, Tuccillo noted, “Obviously, the big mystery or the big suspense for the whole episode is that Greg is hoping for Jeremy Gathercole to show up. And it’s very, very obvious that he won’t show up because there’s no reason for him to show up because he’s not been answering calls or anything. But Sally is insisting that she knows him and she’ll just give him a call, which of course seems completely delusional in the moment.”

She further added, “Then the fun of the revelation that he does show up is that we have a really fun actor to play him, who’s so perfect, and that’s Evan Handler. And Evan is an old friend, so it was really fun to have him come in. And it was a big favor because he’s from LA, so he flew in for this very small moment, but it was so fun to have him, and he was so perfect.”

Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 8 is set to premiere on Fox on February 24.
