Dove Cameron stars in Prime Video’s new erotic thriller, and with its premiere date right here, the first wave of critical reviews has arrived. The series has officially secured a score on Rotten Tomatoes, giving audiences a glimpse into whether this twisty murder mystery delivers on its provocative premise.
What critics are saying about 56 Days
The consensus from critics’ reviews suggests that 56 Days is a mixed bag, offering suspenseful highs alongside frustrating lows. While some praise its character depth and commitment to its emotional core, others argue the adaptation plays it too safe.
Martin Carr from CBR felt the series missed an opportunity, writing, “This adaptation of Catherine Ryan Howard’s global bestseller plays it way too safe, turning the story into a middle of the road ensemble piece with brief flashes of brilliance at best.” This sentiment is echoed by M.N. Miller from FandomWire, who stated, “The new Prime Video erotic thriller series 56 Days is sexy but, frankly, stupid. The adaptation of Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel is contrived and boring. Some.of the performances are truly awful, wooden, and make each syllable seem like hazard pay.”
However, not every 56 Days review is as scathing. Matthew Rudoy from Screen Rant offered a more balanced take, writing, “As an entertaining thriller that sticks the landing and has enough twists and strong performances to keep things entertaining, 56 Days is worth binge-watching, despite some of its shortcomings.” Vinamra Mathur from Firstpost highlighted the show’s patient storytelling, noting, “56 Days is not great. It’s not the kind of a show that has a twist thrown in every second. But it does tempt you to know more about these deceptively complex characters.”
56 Days gets strong score on Rotten Tomatoes
Landing at 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, 56 Days sits in a solid position as of writing. The score suggests that while the series has its flaws, enough critics found merit in its narrative to push it into “fresh” territory.
The series attempts to weave a classic love story with a gruesome murder. 56 Days follows the whirlwind romance between Oliver (Avan Jogia) and Ciara (Dove Cameron), which turns fatal 56 days later when detectives find a body dissolved in a bathtub. With its non-linear storytelling, the show keeps viewers guessing about who the victim is and who the killer might be.
All eight episodes of 56 Days are set to premiere on Prime Video on February 18, 2026.
