Strom Foundation honours scholars to drive youth-led economic growth

The Strom Foundation, through its flagship academic initiative, the Strom Scholars Award, has honoured outstanding students as part of efforts to strengthen youth capacity and support Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic growth.

The second edition of the Strom Scholars Award was held at Plateau State University during its 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremonies, reaffirming the foundation’s commitment to youth development across key sectors of the economy, according to a statement by the organisation.

The statement noted that ten exceptional graduating students received ₦500,000 each, amounting to ₦5 million in financial support. Beyond the monetary prize, the initiative also provides mentorship to help scholars navigate the transition from academic excellence to meaningful economic participation.

Speaking on behalf of the foundation, Ibimina Young Arney described the award as more than recognition, calling it an investment in future possibilities.

“At Strom, we are builders — not only of infrastructure, but of systems, opportunities, futures, and possibilities. We believe that true development must improve lives. The Strom Scholars Award is a direct expression of that belief,” she said.

She explained that the award recognises not only academic performance but also discipline, resilience, and leadership potential needed to contribute to Nigeria’s infrastructure growth.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university commended the foundation for reinforcing the value of excellence within the academic community, noting that the scholarship sends a strong message about the rewards of hard work.

“It strengthens the culture of merit and aspiration that we continue to build here,” he said.
