Recalls are an annoying part of life, but Cummins is offering to pay customers hundreds of dollars to have an emissions issue addressed. It impacts 2013–2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks equipped with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel engine.
Known as Recall 67A, Cummins bills it as a “simple software update to further reduce tailpipe NOx emissions.” The company said this should take 60 minutes or less to fix and “does not change the truck’s power, torque, or responsiveness.”

However, the firm quietly admits 2016-2018 trucks might see a 0.5 mpg reduction in fuel economy during city and light-load driving. Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) consumption also climbs as the new software “sends updated signals to the DEF injection system to lower tailpipe NOx emissions by increasing DEF dosing to the aftertreatment catalyst under certain conditions.”
Needless to say, that’s not an attractive update and owners haven’t been rushing to get the issue fixed. Given this, Cummins is rolling out incentives to spur action.
Customers who complete the recall between now and May 31 are eligible to receive a $500 prepaid Mastercard. However, the first 750 participants who complete the recall by March 31 will get $1,000.
Customers have to submit a claim online at CumminsRecall.com by June 21, although you’ll have to act fast if you want the full $1,000. The company went on to say once the recall is complete, owners will receive a free extended warranty that covers certain emissions components, service and labor for at least 4 years and 48,000 miles.
The incentive is designed to “encourage timely completion” of the recall and Cummins’ Jennifer Rager said, “Our goal is to make the process quick, clear, and worthwhile for every owner.”
