The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has appealed to the public for assistance in locating a TikTok user who claims she was raped in her apartment by a stranger.

The appeal came after a video by the user, identified as Mirabel (@mirab351), went viral, sparking widespread outrage and the trending hashtag #StopRapingWomen across social media. In the video, Mirabel recounted that the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, February 15, after she had taken medication for insomnia. She said she was woken by knocks on her apartment door and attacked upon opening it, losing consciousness and sustaining injuries.

Mirabel also claimed that the assailant later contacted her via social media, taking responsibility for the attack and issuing threats. Screenshots of the messages were shared in her video. In a follow-up post on Tuesday, she revealed that she had attempted suicide but was saved by a friend who rushed her to a hospital, where she is now receiving care.

Reacting to the viral video, DSVA Executive Secretary Titilola Adeniyi-Vivour said the agency was actively trying to locate the survivor to provide immediate support and intervention.

“Our team is actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention, and to ascertain her location,” Adeniyi-Vivour stated.

The agency urged anyone with credible information to contact DSVA through its verified social media channels, emphasizing confidentiality and safety.

“Sexual assault is a crime. Every survivor deserves protection, care, support, and justice. All reports are treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency,” she added.

DSVA reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to addressing sexual violence and supporting survivors.
