Antony Starr-Led Netflix Show Gets Massive Cast & Release Date Updates

Netflix has revealed fresh details about one of its upcoming Australian dramas as production continues. The Antony Starr-led series has added several new cast members and locked in its release window. The update forms part of the streamer’s broader content plans for the year ahead.

Breakers expands cast and gets confimation on release date window

Netflix’s upcoming Australian psychological drama Breakers has expanded its cast and confirmed its release window. The series, led by Antony Starr, will premiere globally on Netflix in 2026. Announced as part of Netflix’s 2026 Australia and New Zealand slate, the show marks the first Netflix series filmed in Western Australia.

Breakers follows “two backpacking friends who are drawn into a close-knit surf community,” set in a fictional coastal town. The official logline states: “Two American friends backpacking through Australia stumble upon what seems like paradise in a remote surf commune… As a member mysteriously vanishes and the group’s rituals grow increasingly unsettling, the friends realize they’ve been drawn into a dangerous cult.”

In addition to Starr, the cast includes Oliver Edis, Annabel Wolfe and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai. Newly added cast members include Asher Yasbincek, Sherry-Lee Watson and Brodie Townsend. David Howell, Tyroe Muhafidin, Tom Dawson, Lu Miller and Eliza Learmonth also join the series. Starr plays a “charismatic but mysterious figure” who leads the surf community. He also serves as an executive producer.

Clerkenwell Films, the company behind Baby Reindeer and The End of the F**ing World, produces the series with BBC Studios Australia Productions. Pete Jackson writes the series. Mary Nighy and Ng Choon Ping direct. Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, Wim De Greef, Jackson and Antony Starr serve as executive producers.

The team filmed in Margaret River, Busselton beachfront and Perth. The WA Government supported the production through the Screenwest Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive. Netflix confirmed a 2026 debut. Reports indicate the team expects to wrap production in June 2026.
