Leaders, elders, and executives of Ward 08 of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ujevwu have resolved to remove Sir Richard Odibo and Chief John Olomu from positions of authority, citing allegations of exclusivity and breach of party procedures.
The decision emerged from a meeting at the Ward 08 APC secretariat, where stakeholders discussed issues affecting the unity and strength of the party in the ward.
According to the resolution, Odibo and Olomu allegedly arrogated leadership powers meant for twenty nominated leaders to themselves. They were accused of selecting the Ward 08 Executive Committee, Local Government Area (LGA) delegates, and state delegates without consulting other stakeholders.
The committee further noted that Odibo involved only a few leaders in key decisions, sidelining the majority and undermining inclusivity. Odibo’s preference for using Olomu to convene meetings instead of the constitutionally recognized Ward Chairman was described as a usurpation of authority and a violation of party rules.
The resolution also criticized the zoning of executive positions carried out without the involvement of twelve other leaders, describing it as divisive. Odibo was further accused of sending his personal assistant, Chief James Akpowa, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to act on his behalf, signaling divided loyalty and a potential threat to APC unity.
The committee warned that such actions could jeopardize the party’s prospects, including the chances of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and APC in the 2027 elections.
Consequently, Odibo was removed as a leader in Ward 08, and all executive and delegate lists submitted by Odibo and Olomu were declared null and void. They were instructed to stop presenting themselves as leaders of the ward.
The resolution passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and recognized leaders including Sir S.K. Palama, Elegbete Moses Odibo, Bishop Fred K. Arutere Esq., and Chief Joseph Odjeni.
The resolution was signed by Chief Royal Ejovwo (Ward 08 Chairman), Hon. Alfred Amu (Leader), and General Joseph Figbele (LGA Youth Leader). Copies were forwarded to the APC National Chairman in Abuja, the APC State Chairman in Asaba, and the APC LGA Chairman in Udu, reaffirming the ward’s commitment to party unity and future electoral success.
