Two persons reportedly killed, one injured as gunmen attack Plateau community

At least two residents were reportedly shot dead by gunmen suspected to be bandits in a renewed attack on Garga community, of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Iyan Garga, Alh. Usman Muhammed Danladi, a traditional ruler in the community ,told newsmen that the bandits reportedly invaded the community on Monday evening, shooting sporadically killing two persons and injuring one.

“Some bandits invaded our community this Monday evening, They were shooting sporadically, and people ran for their lives. “

“The bandits shot three youths; one died instantly, another died later, and the remaining injured victim has been rushed to hospital,” he said.

According to him, members of the local vigilante group chased the attackers as they fled into the bush.

“It is now calm in the community. Our local vigilantes and community members have chased them away,” he added.

Ya’u Musa, another community member, told newsmen that the attack has generated fear among residents.

Our correspondent reports that this latest incident adds to a series of violent attacks that have plagued communities in Kanam in recent years.

It could be recalled that in 2023 and 2024, several villages, including Garga, Kukawa among other villages were attacked by armed groups, leading to death of more than 100 persons and displacement of families.

Residents of various communities in Kanam LGA have repeatedly raised concerns over what they described as persistent security breaches in the areas, calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and establish more permanent security posts to deter recurrent attacks.

Garga is one of the communities bordering villages in Wase, which is bedeviled by banditry and kidnapping activities.

Recently the military deployed troops to Wase local government to tackle this challenges .
