Plateau govt pledge to end water scarcity with solar-powered schemes

The Plateau State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling long-standing water shortages across the state .

Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti, assured residents that solar-powered projects will deliver clen and reliable water to them .

In a video posted on Monday on the official Facebook page of the Plateau state government highlighting achievements of the Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration, Datti addressed widespread complaints about inadequate water supply, particularly in Jos North Local Government Area and other communities in the state .

He described public complaints as a positive sign of engagement, stating that such feedback helps drive government action.

Under the Mutfwang’s administration,water has been prioritised as essential to life. “

The commissioner spotlighted the recent flag-off of a solar-powered motorized water treatment and supply scheme in Mado community, Tudun Wada ward, valued at over ₦200 million.

β€œHis Excellency gave us the permission to come and do a mini scheme of a water treatment plant to serve the good people of Mado,” the commissioner explained, noting Governor Mutfwang’s approval and plans to scale the model to other areas.

These interventions form part of broader efforts, including the ₦13.7 billion rehabilitation of major dams in partnership with international firms, interim water trucking to affected communities, and collaborations with local groups, he added .

Datti urged continued community support and patience, assuring that the administration is working to ensure every part of Plateau State gains access to potable water to improve public health, agriculture, and overall development
