The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a planned deadly attack on Elebe Village, Aleniboro, via Irawo Mine, neutralising two armed bandits in a carefully coordinated intelligence-led operation.
In what has been described as a major operational success, the Command stated: “In a remarkable display of operational prowess, proactive policing strategy, and intelligence-driven crime prevention, the Command has successfully foiled a planned attack on Elebe Village, Aleniboro, via Irawo Mine.”
It added that: “The operation, executed with precision and swift tactical coordination, underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence gathering, rapid response capability, and the protection of vulnerable communities from criminal elements.”
The command said the breakthrough followed credible information from a good Samaritan who reported at the station that about ten (10) armed Fulani men had concealed themselves at a farm settlement within Elebe Village and were planning to attack the community under the cover of darkness.
According to the report, the suspects were armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns, and cut-to-size locally made pistols, and were openly discussing their intention to unleash violence on the village.
“Immediately the intelligence was received, the Divisional Police Officer, Tede Division, in line with established operational and regimental chain of command, promptly informed the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna,” adding that the Commissioner immediately directed the deployment of additional operational assets to ensure the mission’s success.
“Police officers, working in collaboration with members of the Agbekoya and local hunters at Aleniboro, swiftly mobilised to the identified hideout.”
“On sighting the advancing security operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, leading to a gun duel. During the exchange, two of the bandits were neutralised, while others escaped with suspected bullet wounds.”
“A reinforcement patrol team subsequently carried out an extensive combing operation of the surrounding bush. Items recovered at the scene included one cut-to-size locally made pistol, one empty cartridge, two live cartridges, two expended 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition shells fired by the hoodlums, quantities of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, two Tecno button phones, and one bottle containing a substance suspected to be a mixed drink.”
The command confirmed that the area has since been secured, while intensive bush-combing and surveillance operations remain ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and eliminate any residual threat to Elebe Village and adjoining communities.
The command further called for sustained public cooperation, stating: “The Command further solicits sustained cooperation and timely intelligence from members of the public, emphasizing that community support remains a critical pillar in the ongoing fight against criminality.”
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.
“For emergencies, members of the public are advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line on 615, or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413,” the command said.
