Muscat – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has issued a formal notice clarifying the requirements for restaurants and cafes to apply for official tourism classification. Under the new directive, the Ministry has identified specific categories of establishments that are required to seek this classification. These include dining facilities located within hotel establishments, those built on designated tourism lands, and outlets managed under concession agreements.
In addition to the mandatory categories, the Ministry has also extended the opportunity for other restaurants and cafes that do not fall under the specified criteria to voluntarily apply for tourism classification. This move aims to enhance the quality of services provided within the sector and ensure a high standard of hospitality across the country.
To facilitate a seamless application process, the Ministry has launched a dedicated digital pathway. Business owners can now register through the official e-services portal by following the approved procedures.
