Abuja: The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has denied the allegation that the University diverted the money provided by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, for students of the institution.
The governing council, which is led by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, said in a statement made available to Vanguard on Saturday that no such fund had been diverted by the management of the University.
The rebuttal is coming barely a day after the dismissal of the same allegation by NELFUND, which cleared the University of any involvement in fund diversion.
The statement, which was signed by the Acting Registrar of the University and Secretary to the Governing Council, Malam Sambo Mohammed, states clearly that no NELFUND funds have been diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld by the University of Abuja or any of its officials.
Part of the statement reads: “The council further notes the official clarification issued by NELFUND, through its Directorate of Strategic Communications that there is no verified evidence to support the allegation, and that the report does not reflect the true position of affairs.
“The University of Abuja operates within established financial regulations and maintains strict accountability in the management of all funds,” it said.
The Council added that the University has consistently adhered to all guidelines governing the disbursement and utilisation of funds under intervention schemes, including NELFUND, in line with extant regulations and urged the public to disregard the misleading media report.
“The Governing Council reiterates its confidence in the University’s Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, and its ongoing commitment to transparency, due process, and institutional integrity,” the governing council stated.
