Aiden Robbins shines in Texas Longhorns baseball debut

After months of anticipation, Longhorns baseball returned to action on Friday night for its season opener. As the Longhorns rolled to a 12-2 win over UC Davis, they got contributions from everyone on the roster. One player who shined was Aiden Robbins, who joined the Longhorns out of the transfer portal in the offseason. 

In his Longhorns debut, Robbins went 2-4 with three RBI. He made his presence felt early on with a two-run homer in the third inning that gave Texas a 3-1 lead. That sparked the offense, and Texas never looked back, outscoring UC Davis 9-1 the rest of the way.

While Friday night marked Robbins' first game in burnt orange, he is a player many are familiar with. He made headlines in his last season with Seton Hall, posting a .422 batting average in 53 games. The Longhorns' newest outfielder also showed some power with 19 doubles, 5 triples, and 6 home runs. His stellar performance at the plate is partly why he was one of Texas's top targets. 

Although the 2026 campaign is less than 24 hours old, Friday night showed a taste of what type of impact Robbins can make. The Pennsylvania native can change a game with his power and make adjustments when needed. He also has a knack for coming through with big hits.

As the Longhorns look to end their national title drought, Robbins will be a key piece. He has had success at every level, posting a .369 batting average in his first two college seasons. The Longhorns season opener showed that big things could be on the horizon for Texas and Robbins as they try to make history.
