Kaizer Chiefs are just 90 minutes away from securing a place in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals this evening.

Standing in their path are Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek SC, with the crucial Group clash at 18:00 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.

Co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have picked an experienced starting set.

Amakhosi currently sit top of the group on 10 points, ahead of Zamalek (8). Followed Al Masry (7) and ZESCO United (3).

A draw this evening will be enough to send Kaizer Chiefs through to the final eight, a position firmly in their own hands heading into the decisive encounter.

Kaizer Chiefs’ journey in this competition has produced moments of pride but also painful near-misses. Their finest continental chapter came in 2001, when they lifted the African Cup Winners’ Cup after edging Angola’s Inter de Luanda 2-1 on aggregate over two legs.

However, consistency in Africa has remained a challenge. In 2014, their campaign was halted by ASEC Mimosas in the playoff round, while the 2018/19 season ended in the second qualifying round after a defeat to ZESCO United.
