Vijayawada: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has said that the government is implementing a multi-pronged strategy to curb increasing incidence of cyber crime in Andhra Pradesh.

In reply to the queries raised during the Question Hour in the Council here on Friday on cyber crimes like ‘digital arrest’, the minister said, “We would set up dedicated cybercrime wings and cyber police stations in every district with specialised teams and have upgraded the forensic infrastructure.”

She listed out the steps being taken up, like conduct of cyber awareness campaigns on emerging trends of fraud and the reporting mechanisms.”We are ensuring quick police response through the 1930 helpline and website cybercrime.gov.in. We have a system of mandatory registration of FIR in cases where there’s a loss of above Rs 10 lakh. We are setting up a cyber fraud mitigation centre by deputing two officers for effective coordination at the national level,” she said.

The home minister said the state government undertook extensive awareness programmes to prevent cyber crimes like digital arrest, by conducting district level awareness programmes in schools, colleges, workplaces and communities. The police are providing guidance on cyber security practices and counselling.

Anitha said special awareness programmes targeting vulnerable sections like retired employees, senior citizens and women involving NGOs and district police and banks were also being organised.

The police, she said, had conducted 1,596 awareness programmes across the state and that they observed October, 2025 as cyber security and awareness month.

She noted that highly educated persons and retired employees were falling victim to the cyber fraud and called upon such vulnerable groups to be more careful. Those facing trouble from cyber crime gangs may call up the toll-free number 1930 to alert the authorities, she said.
