Imagine finding out on live radio that the boyfriend you went into debt for to help bury his mother is cheating on you.

As if that’s not enough, that same live-in boyfriend of three years has decided to spoil his new girlfriend with an expensive Valentine’s Day dinner instead of you.

That’s the experience of Lebo, who called 947 to ask for their assistance to investigate what’s behind her boyfriend’s new behavioural changes.

Thabang got the call, made by radio personality Frankie of Anele and the Club, pretending to be from the restaurant group, Marble.

The ploy was a prize for a high-end dinner experience for Thabang and his significant other.

“I think I’ll come with my girlfriend,” Thabang says.

“Should I say girlfriend, or should I say partner or wife?” asks Frankie.

“It’s girlfriend, you can put down Thabile,” Thabang responds.

“… I’ve got you down as Thabang and Thabile. TT, that’s so cute…” teases Frankie, to which Thabang chuckles.

“That’s what people say,” Thabang explains.

“So it’s like official, official? You’ve been hanging out with your friends?” asks Frankie.

“It’s been three months. Just a few friends have met her,” Thabang says.

After hanging up with Thabang, his girlfriend, Lebo, is ushered back into the chat to verify if she heard everything and to tell the Breakfast Club what the next move should be.

She tearfully explains that they have been together for three years, and that she’s in debt because of him.

She says that with all the red flags flapping, Lebo decided to go this route to get the truth out of him.

When they call Thabang back and when Lebo confronts him, he effortlessly pretends not to know what’s going on and not to know anyone named Thabile.

After doubling down, he then blames AI.

“You know, AI, you can fake people’s voices and stuff, right?” Thabang says, much to everyone’s astonishment.

“None of this is fake, Thabang. I think the reality is… the whole city knows you’ve been caught out in this moment. Lebo is waiting for answers, and you’re not willing to give her… we’re gonna leave it here,” Frankie says.

“You can come get your things,” Lebo adds.

“Baby, we’ll talk when I see you. Bye,” and with that, Thabang hangs up.

Anele switches things around to cheer Lebo up.

“You’re the one getting the Marble voucher. You and your friends can hang out at Marble.”
