Kakinada: A fire broke out at All Caste Colony in Mamidikuduru mandal of Dr B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Wednesday, gutting 11 huts and leaving 13 families homeless.

On receiving information, fire department personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses.

Household appliances and belongings of the affected families were completely destroyed in the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the incident occurred when a person was lighting a gas cylinder.

Fire department officials said the assessment of property loss is under way.
