ABUJA — Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has said President Bola Tinubu’s backing of the Argungu International Fishing Festival is strengthening tourism inflows and investor confidence, positioning the cultural showcase as a strategic economic asset.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Bagudu who spoke during the flag-off of the Argungu Motor Rally in Abuja, said the President’s recent engagement with Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, and his readiness to attend the festival have amplified national and international visibility for the event and its related commercial activities.
He noted that the administration views the cultural and creative sectors as viable drivers of economic diversification, employment and foreign investment, stressing that Nigeria’s heritage constitutes tangible economic capital.
Bagudu commended Governor Idris for sustaining and expanding the festival, recalling his participation in the 2020 edition prior to the COVID-19 lockdown, and describing its growth as a reflection of resilience and improved organisation.
The minister said the motor rally, spanning Abuja, Kano and Argungu, signals renewed stability and investor assurance, adding that ongoing security investments are supporting economic activity across key corridors.
He acknowledged the presence of stakeholders from the investment community, automotive industry, diplomatic missions and government institutions, describing their participation as evidence of private sector confidence.
Bagudu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting domestic manufacturers and investors focused on local production and value creation, noting that the festival serves as a platform to project Nigeria’s unity, cultural capital and economic potential to global audiences.
