The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The affected roads will be shut for up to 12 hours during the event.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that the marathon will feature both 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races, which will run simultaneously on designated routes.

The 42-kilometre race will commence at Ahmadu Bello Way (by MRS Gas Station) and run through the entire stretch of the Coastal Road to the finishing point.

The 10-kilometre race will begin at Durosimi Etti in Lekki Phase 1 and proceed through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola, and end at Sanusi Fafunwa.

Osiyemi said all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along the race routes will be blocked from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., but will be reopened intermittently as the race progresses.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies will be deployed to manage traffic and prevent unauthorized access to the race corridors.

The commissioner urged residents to plan their movements in advance, use alternative routes, and consider other modes of transportation.

He appealed for patience, noting that the temporary closures are part of arrangements for the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2026.
