In a symbolic flag off of the 2026 Argungu international fishing and cultural festival, a motor rally involving more than thirty vehicles flagged up in Abuja this afternoon to signal the commencement of the Argungu Fishing Festival.
The rally was jointly flagged off by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, who was represented by the Director-General of the Nigeria Automotive Development Commission, Dr Olwemimo Osanipin, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The landmark ceremony was witnessed by a large crowd of enthusiasts, including the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, former deputy governor of Kebbi State and now National Organizing Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, and many other dignitaries.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, the rally has been a traditional kick-off to the Fishing Festival, and it attracts many automobile brands that use the opportunity to showcase their products and add color to the event as they travel across the states before reaching Kebbi.
“The motor rally will pass through Kaduna to spend the night in Kano. The next day, it will pass through parts of Katsina, sneak through Zamfara, and arrive in Sokoto to spend the night. On Saturday, the day of the grand finale, the rally will reach Birnin Kebbi and end up in Argungu. A colorful reception and a welcome party have been arranged to signal their arrival in both Birnin Kebbi and Argungu.”
He noted that the governor of Sokoto State will host the competitors who will spend the night in Sokoto before proceeding to Birnin Kebbi and Argungu.
In a related development, Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Tafida, on Wednesday unveiled the Argungu International Fishing Festival logo at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, signalling the start of this year’s festival.
