New Zealand were clinical with both the bat and the ball to dismantle the UAE in Chennai, registering a commanding 10-wicket win ahead of a crucial game against South Africa. Seifert and Allen added a record 175 runs unbeaten to take the Kiwis through with 28 balls to spare.

Their stand was the highest partnership for any wicket in T20 World Cup history. They beat the record set by England’s Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, who scored 170 runs in their partnership against India in the 2021 tournament semi-final.

The Seifert-Allen partnership was also the second-highest successful chase without any wickets lost in T20I history. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam hold that record, having chased down 200 against England in Karachi in 2022, putting on 203 runs.

Seifert scored 89 off 42, featuring 12 fours and three sixes, while Allen finished at 84 off 50, with five fours and as many maximums. In the first innings, Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharfu’s fifties had taken the UAE to 173-6 in 20 overs.
