Commendation as Kefas approves resumption of UMCN worship services

The Bishop of the United Methodist Church of Nigeria, UMCN, Bishop Ande Emmanuel, has applauded governor, Agbu Kefas, of Taraba state, for approving the resumption of worship services of the church across the state.

It would be recalled that worship activities in the church was banned by the previous state government following the incessant rift among its members, upheaval which has led to a division.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Jalingo, Bishop Emmanuel said the approval, which takes effect from Sunday, February 22, 2026, followed the successful reconciliation of the church and reflects the governor’s wisdom, courage and commitment to peace.

He described the decision as a compassionate and timely intervention that demonstrates respect for religious freedom, unity and peaceful coexistence in the state.

The bishop also commended governor Kefas for indicating his readiness to personally attend the recommencement service, describing the gesture as a clear sign of the state government’s goodwill and dedication to sustaining peace.

According to him, the leadership and members of the UMCN are deeply grateful for the governor’s role in restoring normal worship activities and fostering harmony within the Christian community.

Bishop Emmanuel reaffirmed the church’s commitment to peace, unity and partnership with the government in promoting the moral, spiritual and social wellbeing of the people of Taraba State.

He further called on members of the United Methodist Church of Nigeria to remain peacemakers and to continue praying for the governor and the state as they prepare to resume worship services.
