This 1973 Plymouth Barracuda coupe was modified with a 440ci V8 and a 727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission in 2024, concurrent with the acquisition of the vehicle by the current owner. Finished in red with black stripes over black vinyl upholstery, the car features a Sure-Grip differential, Cragar 15″ wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum radiator, a sport hood, a pop-up sunroof, and an AM/FM/cassette radio. The brakes were overhauled in late 2025 and the carburetor, alternator, and distributor were replaced. This modified Barracuda is now offered in California by the seller on behalf of the owner with a powertrain-swap receipt and a South Carolina title in the owner’s name.

The car is painted Rallye Red and features black longitudinal stripes. A pop-up glass sunroof has been installed, and other equipment includes a sport hood, dual side mirrors, mud flaps, a body-color tail panel, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers and trim. The seller states that paint repairs were performed years ago under prior ownership. Chips in the paint and other imperfections are pictured in the gallery below.

Bright-finished Cragar 15″ wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the steering also is power assisted. The seller tells us that the brakes and the torsion bars were replaced in December 2025.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl. Interior appointments include a woodgrain-trimmed center console, an AM/FM/cassette radio, aftermarket speakers, a cabin heater, front and rear seatbelts, black carpeting, and bright doorsill plates. The front seats are torn, particularly on the cushions.

The two-spoke steering wheel is missing its center. Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator status. The five-digit odometer shows 3k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership and since the powertrain swap; true mileage is unknown.

The 440ci V8 was rebuilt and installed in this car in August 2024 by the seller. An Edelbrock carburetor was installed and the alternator and distributor were replaced in late 2025. An aluminum radiator is utilized. The vehicle’s chassis number indicates that it was originally powered by a 318ci V8.

The 727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt in 2024 and installed along with the 440ci engine. The transmission is augmented by a 2,800-rpm-stall torque converter, according to the seller. The drivetrain also features a custom driveshaft and a rebuilt Sure-Grip limited-slip differential.

The fender tag indicates that the vehicle is a Plymouth Barracuda coupe (BH23) that left the factory equipped with a 318ci V8 featuring a two-barrel carburetor (E44) along with a light-duty automatic transmission (D34). The tag also reveals that the car was originally finished in Rallye Red (FE5) over front bucket and rear bench seats upholstered in black vinyl (A6X9).
The South Carolina title notes “Exempt” and “Antique” under the Vehicle Brand(s) section.
