Member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State, Hon. Terseer Ugbor has raised the alarm over escalating violence in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, calling for immediate measures to stop the attacks.
Ugbor strongly condemned the rising spate of killings and abductions in the state, lamenting that insecurity has worsened with violent attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Hon Ugbor described the situation as alarming and called for urgent action from the government and security agencies to protect citizens.

He described the situation as an endless cycle of violence that has bedeviled  border communities for over 15 years, without prospects of resettling victims or giving them succour.

Hon Ugbor warned that affected communities of Turan and Ikyurav-ya axis, which borders Cameroon and Taraba State, was becoming an epicenter of violence because of its vast terrain and mineral-rich land.

He recommended the activation of the Border Patrol Unit, development of the Cameroon border into an export processing zone, and demarcation of boundaries between Benue and Taraba States.

Ugboro called for resettlement of displaced persons, restoration of farmlands, and a comprehensive mapping of mineral resources, with a strict ban on illegal mining.

He emphasised that implementing these measures would bring lasting peace, strengthen security, and guarantee sustainable development for future generations.

Ugbor reaffirmed his dedication to supporting community policing and providing relief materials to people affected by violence in his constituency.

He cited recent approvals of key institutions in the constituency, including a National Open University Study Centre, Forestry Research Centre, Technology Incubation Centre, Infectious Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, and a Federal Medical Centre, as the reason these security measures should be taken.

materials, who described the initiatives as salient revolution in the federal constituency, expressed confidence  the area will witness more dividends of democracy if the rising violence is tackled.
