2027: Wike-aligned PDP overhauls structures in four Northern states

ABUJA — The Nyesom Wike-aligned faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated a major reorganisation of its structures ahead of the 2027 political cycle, approving caretaker committees to run party affairs in Kano, Plateau, Yobe and Zamfara states.

In a statement signed by Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), the party leadership said the move was taken pursuant to constitutional provisions empowering the committee to manage state chapters pending the emergence of new executives.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) pursuant to Article 29(2)(b) has approved the appointment of the following as Caretaker Committee Members for Kano, Plateau, Yobe and Zamfara,” he said.

The restructuring affects four politically strategic northern states widely considered important to the party’s rebuilding strategy, with new caretaker committees mandated to oversee operations and stabilise internal structures during the transition period.

“The Committees are charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the Party in their respective States, as stipulated in Section 21(2) of the PDP Constitution,” Jungudo said.

According to the statement, the caretaker arrangements are temporary and intended to run for a limited tenure pending the constitution of fresh state executive committees.

“The tenure of these committees shall be for 30 days, or until such a time as a new Executive Committee is elected,” it read.

The party said the appointments take immediate effect, with newly named chairmen and secretaries expected to assume responsibilities across the affected state chapters as the reorganisation begins.
