‘You should be very worried’ – Trump warns Ayatollah Khamenei

US President Donald Trump has warned Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that he should be “very worried” as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to grow.

Speaking in an interview with NBC News on Wednesday, Trump said the warning was direct and serious.

“I would say he should be very worried. Yeah, he should be,” he said.

His comments come at a time when the US is increasing its military presence around Iran, while the White House weighs possible actions against the Iranian government.

Although Trump said he has not completely ruled out diplomacy, talks planned between the two countries later this week now appear uncertain, as both sides are still struggling to agree on the conditions for any negotiations.

Trump also claimed that his tough stance has encouraged protesters inside Iran, even without the US stepping in directly. “We’ve had their back. And look, that country is a mess right now because of us,” he said.

Referring to a June airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities, Trump added, “We went in, we wiped out their nuclear.”

He argued that the action helped stabilise the Middle East, saying regional countries were previously afraid of Iran.
“They’re not afraid of Iran anymore,” he said.

The US president further claimed that intelligence reports showed Iran was attempting to revive its nuclear programme at new locations.

“They tried to go back to the site. They weren’t even able to get near it,” Trump said. “There was total obliteration.”

He warned Iran against starting another facility elsewhere.

“They were thinking about starting a new site in a different part of the country. We found out about it. I said, you do that, we’re going to do bad things to you,” he added.
