The Co-Convener of the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room, Mma Odi, has frowned at the rejection of mandatory  e-transmission of election results by the Senate.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Odi said the Senate has succeeded in killing Nigeria’s democracy.

She stated the Senate is trying to rig the 2027 election as they did in the precious elections.

DAILY POST reports that the Senate on Wednesday turned down a proposed change to Clause 60, sub-section 3 of the Electoral Amendment Bill that aimed to compel the electronic transmission of election results.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had claimed that the Senate did not reject the electronic transmission of election results during consideration of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.

Reacting, Odi said, “Electronic transmission was the only game-changer, the Senate just killed it. What we witnessed yesterday was the gradual killing of Nigeria’s democracy.

“This political class has failed to deliver security, healthcare, education or good governance, yet it is already preparing to rig the 2027 elections. That is unacceptable, and Nigerians will resist it.

“It is very clear that the Senate is representing itself and not the people of Nigeria. We want a change as in response to supreme court judgment. The only good thing there is making it mandatory for the INEC to transmit this result timely that you and I will be seeing what is going on.”
