Businessman escapes attempted assassination in KZN

A businessman escaped unharmed after gunmen targeted him in a suspected assassination attempt in Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday afternoon.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the incident on Link Road, between Old Phase and New Phase in Trenance Park.

Officers established that the victim had just left the area and was driving a black Chevrolet bakkie when a black Toyota Etios pulled up alongside his vehicle.

The occupants of the sedan then opened fire. Officers could not obtain the suspect vehicle’s registration number.

Reaction officers arrived at the scene at about 21:35 and found that six shots had struck the bakkie.

The driver, who was alone at the time, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road into nearby bushes.

He managed to escape through the passenger-side door and fled on foot to avoid further danger. He sustained no injuries.

Suspects flee, motive unclear

The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Authorities have not yet established a motive for the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
