Alan Ritchson’s War Machine gives Predator and Metal Gear vibes to fans
Alan Ritchson stars in War Machine, a sci-fi action thriller directed by Patrick Hughes, releasing March 6, 2026, on Netflix.
The film follows an elite U.S. Army Ranger team whose final selection exercise turns into a deadly survival mission against an “unimaginable threat.” According to Netflix’s official synopsis, Ritchson plays 81, leading a cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber.
Viewers on X compared the film’s tone and visuals to known science fiction and military franchises. One user commented, “Predator vibes…but against a ‘Mech.’” Another wrote, “Metal Gear … the Movie …” A third user posted, “Temu Metal Gear Solid.” These comparisons highlight the audience’s perception of the film’s futuristic military elements and mechanized enemies.
Another user referenced a sci-fi classic, stating, “It reminded me of Edge of Tomorrow. Elite training, chaos, survival… just swap the aliens for killer robots.” A separate comment echoed the Predator reference, stating, “Predator vibes for 2026 but it won’t be allowed to be as good.” One person asked, “So it’s Predator with a robot?” while another likened it to an earlier sci-fi entry, saying, “It feels like 2012’s Battlefield Earth.”
The film is produced by Todd Lieberman and Alexander Young (Hidden Pictures), alongside Patrick Hughes and Greg McLean (HUGE FILM). Rich Cook (Range) also serves as producer, and Valerie Bleth Sharp is executive producer. The trailer showcases the film’s central conflict, where a training mission becomes a fight against a giant otherworldly killing machine.
War Machine has a runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes and is rated MA 15+.
