James Marsden‘s recent comments about Avengers: Doomsday should come as a relief to many X-Men fans.

What did James Marsden tell X-Men fans to expect from Avengers; Doomsday?

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Marsden teased his return as Scott Summers/Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday.

“Yeah, of course,” Marsden said when asked if Doomsday would satisfy the dedicated X-Men fans. “I mean, I’ve also been trained not to speak too much about this particular project, but of course you can count on being blown away, seeing so many new things, and the Russo Brothers upping the ante and Marvel just giving everyone what they want.”

Fans got their first glimpse of Marsden’s return in one of the Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. During the brief clip, Cyclops takes off his glasses and screams in agony as he unleashes powerful energy beams from his eyes.

Marsden has appeared as Cyclops in four movies: 2000’s X-Men, 2003’s X2, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Marsden is not the only actor from the 20th Century Fox X-Men films returning for Doomsday. The list includes Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique.

Channing Tatum is scheduled to appear as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, who first appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. Speaking of Deadpool, there is speculation that Ryan Reynolds could appear in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. The same can be said for Hugh Jackman, who is rumored to return as Wolverine.

In Avengers: Doomsday, the X-Men will team with the Avengers, the Wakandans, the New Avengers, and the Fantastic Four to battle Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. The events in Doomsday will be connected to Avengers: Secret Wars, which arrives a year later.

Marvel veterans Joe and Anthony Russo return to direct Avengers: Doomsday, in theaters on December 18, 2026.
