Hyderabad: The submission of bank details of vehicle purchase at the time of registration at showrooms has been optional, said an official at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). The decision was taken following objections raised by some purchasers on the clause in the registration application form.

Since January 24, the government has allowed the registration of new vehicles at the showroom, ending the need for the buyer to visit the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for this purpose.

After the new policy was introduced, an RTA official said 1,632 vehicles had been given temporary registration at showrooms here. The permanent registration will be taken up after the completion of the temporary registration’s one-month tenure.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Peter Paul, CEO of Fortune Honda, a dealership of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Ltd, said that customers were not sharing their bank details. “The registration process at the showrooms had mostly been streamlined. Customers were not willing to share bank details. It was a mandatory clause, but we found it difficult to convince them. Now, it has become optional,” he said.

Several showrooms have complained about the server of the vehicle registration portal Vahan and Sarathi being slow sometimes and requested the government to address the issue.

Each day, around 3,000 vehicles get registered in Telangana. Of this, around 1,500 are from the GHMC region.

The RTA officials said the commissioner has been holding web meetings with dealers on a daily basis from day one to ensure that the process remains smooth. The new policy has reduced the operational burden from the transport officials, saved customers’ time and eliminated the role of touts.
