The Osun State Police Command has stepped up rescue operations following the abduction of two residents of Ora-Igbomina, a border community between Osun and Kwara states.
The incident, which occurred late on Sunday, has prompted the Police Command to deploy search-and-rescue teams to track those responsible and secure the release of the victims.
DAILY POST gathered that the abducted individuals, identified as Sunday Oyekanmi Adeyeye aka Tayese and Sunday Adewumi, were reportedly taken from a private residence located along the AranβOrin Road in the Papa area of the town by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirming the development on Tuesday, explained that officers were mobilised immediately the command received information about the attack.
“The abduction happened close to midnight during a period of heavy rainfall, which had earlier forced a patrol team in the area to temporarily withdraw.
βThe report indicated that the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. Our operatives had returned to base because of the rain, and it was during that window that the suspects struck,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the Command had since activated a coordinated operation involving patrol units and local intelligence to locate the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
βThe two men were taken away, but search-and-rescue teams moved in immediately after the report reached us. The surrounding areas and escape routes are being combed,β the police spokesman added.
Meanwhile, eyewitness accounts from residents suggested that the attackers arrived in numbers, firing gunshots into the air to create fear before moving swiftly into the house.
The latest incident has revived memories of a similar case in the community, where a former retired personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service, Emmanuel Owolabi, was abducted in December, 2025.
Owolabi was later released in January 2026 in Oro Ago, Kwara State, after spending weeks in captivity.
