Kakinada:YSRC leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu has been remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody. He was taken to the central jail at Rajamahendravaram in the early hours of Monday and lodged in the Sneha Block.

A special mobile court in Guntur remanded him to judicial custody as a case was booked against him for making “derogatory remarks” against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu “leading to serious law and order tensions.”

Though two cases were booked against him, the court imposed judicial remand in a case of making derogatory remarks while in another case, it granted him a station bail.

In the course of the hearing, Rambabu alleged that he was subjected to harassment by the police after the arrest. The cops informed the court that 16 cases were pending against him across the state.

The Nallapadu police informed the court that he used extremely vulgar language against the CM “to stir up communal discord and disrupt peace in the society.”

Rambabu’s son-in-law Upesh and former Rajanagaram MLA Jakkampudi Raja met him at the jail during mulakat time on Monday afternoon. Upesh said Rambabu was psychologically fit and remained enthusiastic about continuing in active politics despite the incident.

Jakkampudi Raja said Rambabu told them that the CM was attempting to disturb public harmony, but asserted that neither he nor the YSRC leaders and activists would bow to the ruling TD and would, instead, continue to oppose the government’s anti-people’s policies.
