Nizwa Fort hosts ‘Bridges’ event celebrating Omani heritage

Nizwa – The Directorate General of Endowments and Religious Affairs in Dakhliyah opened a four-day event called ‘Bridges: Oman – Identity and Civilisation’ on Monday at Nizwa Fort, aiming to showcase the sultanate’s rich cultural identity and long-standing civilisational heritage to visitors.

Held at one of Oman’s most prominent historic landmarks, the event seeks to capitalise on the strong tourist footfall at Nizwa Fort by presenting key aspects of Omani culture, values and traditions in an engaging, visitor-friendly format. The fort receives large numbers of local and international tourists daily, making it an ideal venue for cultural outreach.

The event features four main sections designed to offer an integrated cultural experience. The Omani Identity Corner highlights the foundations of Omani character, customs and social traditions. The Islamic Publications Corner provides books and information that introduce the values of Islam and its message of tolerance. The Muslim Women’s Corner sheds light on the role and contributions of women in Omani society and their status in Islam, while the Hospitality Corner introduces visitors to authentic Omani hospitality and traditional practices of welcoming guests.

Saad bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Head of the Department of Islam and Cultural Exchange in Dakhliyah, said the Bridges initiative has been implemented at several locations across the sultanate earlier and received positive public response.

He noted that Nizwa was selected for the current edition due to its historical and tourism significance, as it attracts a large number of international visitors. “The event aims to build bridges of cultural understanding and present the true image of Omani society and its civilisational values,” he said.

Kindi added that the programme targets people of different age groups and nationalities, contributing to cultural dialogue and broader awareness of Oman’s history and heritage.
