This 1970 Schwinn Sting-Ray is a Grey Ghost Krate edition bicycle finished in grey with a black banana seat supported via a rear spring-loaded sissy bar. Shifting is through a five-speed rear derailleur operated by an automotive-style Stik-Shift, and additional equipment includes a front drum brake, a rear mechanical disc brake, a girder fork, a chrome high-rise handlebar, chrome fenders, and chrome wire-spoke wheels measuring 16″ up front and 20″ at the rear. This Grey Ghost was acquired by the seller in 2025 and is now offered at no reserve in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Schwinn’s Krate bicycles were an outgrowth of the Sting-Ray model, inspired in name and style by contemporary dragsters with a smaller-diameter front wheel, a mag-wheel-inspired sprocket, a stick shifter, and a rear slick tire. The Krate was offered in a variety of colors, and this example, dubbed the Grey Ghost, is finished in grey and has a black banana seat with white racing stripes that is supported at the rear by sissy bar shocks. Additional features include a chrome girder fork, a side stand, chrome fenders, and Schwinn and Sting-Ray script.

Chrome wire-spoke wheels measuring 16″ front and 20″ rear are mounted with Shwinn-branded tires, the rear of which has raised white letters.

Braking is handled by an Atom drum up front, and a Schwinn-branded mechanical disc unit at the rear, both of which are hand-lever-activated.

The chrome high-rise handlebar carries black Schwinn-branded grips along with bright Weinmann brake levers.

The Stik-Shift is mounted on the top tube and can be moved forward or backward to shift into a higher or lower gear

The drivetrain is comprised of a chrome one-piece crankset with a matching MAG sprocket along with a drive chain, a five-speed freewheel, and a rear derailleur.

The LF prefix of the serial number stamped on the head tube is consistent with a November 1970 production date.
