Police apprehend five suspected vandals of NNPC pipelines in Edo

No fewer than five suspected pipeline vandals have been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command.

The suspects were arrested on  Monday, January 26, 2026, at about 9:30 am by operatives of Ekpoma Division.

ASP Eno Ikoedem, the image maker of the Command stated this in a statement on Sunday, February 1, 2026 and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

Ikoedem said the arrest of the suspects followed credible information received by operatives regarding vandalism of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) pipeline passing through Uhiele Community, Ekpoma.

She said that as a result of the information, operatives of Ekpoma Division immediately mobilised to the location and successfully arrested five suspects in connection with the act.

She gave the names of the suspects to include  Omoregie Osayi, Mathias Okhae, John Akheoumukhan, Akhabue Smart and Godday Abumere.

Ikoedem added that an excavator used to damage the pipeline was recovered from the suspects.

She said efforts are in top gear to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene and also to recover pipes already carted away.

The Public Relations Officer attributed the successes recorded so far to part of sustained security measures put in place by the Commissioner of Police in the State   Monday Agbonika to disrupt criminal networks and deny offenders a safe haven across the State.

She stated that the Command remains resolute in its duty to safeguard lives, protect critical infrastructures, and dismantle organised criminal networks within the state.

Ikoedem, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to partner with the Police by providing timely and credible information that will aid proactive policing.
