This 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS Sport Coupe was refurbished prior to its acquisition by the seller in 1996. The car is finished in maroon over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a replacement 350ci V8 linked to a two-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes quad headlights, chrome bumpers, engine-turned bodyside trim, dual antennas, power steering, drum brakes, Cragar S/S wheels, an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum radiator, a heavy-duty suspension, front bucket seats, an aftermarket cassette deck, and a heater. This Impala SS is now offered with a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Honduras Maroon (948) and is believed to have been repainted under prior ownership. Styling incorporates chrome bumpers as well as bright trim and headlight surrounds. Other features include quad headlights, Impala SS badging, engine-turned bodyside trim, dual antennas, and a recessed tail panel. Rust is noted near the window trim, and close-up photos of paint and trim imperfections, including chips, paint cracks, rust bubbles, and dented chrome, are displayed in the gallery.

Chrome-finished Cragar S/S 14″ wheels are mounted with a mixed set of steel-belted radial front and BFGoodrich Radial T/A rear tires. SS examples were fitted with a heavy-duty suspension that included revised front and rear coil springs and shock absorbers. This example is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by unassisted drums.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl, and appointments include a center console, vent windows, metal trim accents, manual-crank windows, an aftermarket cassette deck, and a heater. The dome lights in the sail panels do not work.

The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and nonfunctional supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, less than 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The turn signal switch operates intermittently.

The replacement 350ci V8 was installed under prior ownership and is believed to have been sourced from a Chevrolet truck. It is equipped with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum radiator, an electric fuel pump, and M/T valve covers.

The engine stamping is shown above.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a two-speed automatic transmission. Rust is noted on underbody surfaces.

Decoding the body tag reveals the following information:

  • 6E – Fifth week of June production
  • Style: 62-1847 – 1962 Impala Sport Coupe
  • Body: SL56703 – St. Louis assembly; production sequence
  • Trim: 812 – Black vinyl, bucket seats
  • Paint: 948 – Honduras Maroon
