Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, has described the performance of the outgoing heads of security agencies in the state as excellent, emphasizing that sustained teamwork and actionable intelligence sharing remain vital to addressing security challenges across Nigeria.
The governor made the remarks weekend during a state dinner held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Jalingo, in honour of retired and transferred security chiefs who served in the state.
He reaffirmed that his administration would not relent in the fight against insecurity, stressing that security remains a top priority of his government.
Governor Kefas, a retired senior military officer, said his professional assessment showed that the outgoing security chiefs performed creditably despite the complex operational environment of Taraba State, which is home to more than 80 ethnic groups. He expressed confidence in their professionalism and assured them that they would continue to excel in future assignments.
He also pledged continued government support for security agencies through sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and inter-agency networking, aimed at enhancing professionalism and operational efficiency.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the state government, Barrister Gebon Timothy Katap, described Taraba as the safest state in Northern Nigeria, attributing the achievement to the dedication and commitment of the honoured security chiefs. He noted that they had preserved the state’s longbstanding reputation as a safe haven and had “written their names in gold” through their service.
He commended the outgoing security heads for their collective efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Responding on behalf of the outgoing security chiefs, former Commissioner of Police in the state, AIG Emmanuel Bretet (rtd), expressed appreciation to the state government for the recognition and support extended to security agencies.
He said actionable intelligence sharing, teamwork and the avoidance of inter-agency rivalry were key to the successes recorded in the state, and urged that similar cooperation be extended to their successors to sustain the gains achieved.
Those observed to have been transferred from the state or retired are
the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa; retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Bretet; the State Director of the Department of State Services, Mr Edet Victor; Squadron Leader John Osifo; among others.
