This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette is one of approximately 6,502 Pace Car Edition examples produced to commemorate the model’s use as the pace car for the 1978 running of the Indianapolis 500, and it shows 25k miles. It is powered by a 350ci L48 V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in black and silver over silver leather upholstery. The car is equipped with a Positraction differential, removable glass roof panels, 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels, an AM/FM eight track stereo, an electric rear defogger, power windows, air conditioning, and a Borla cat-back exhaust system. Acquired by the selling dealer in late 2019, this special-edition C3 Corvette is now offered in Virginia at no reserve with a clean West Virginia title.

The 1978 Corvette featured a revised fastback roofline with wraparound rear glass, and all Pace Car examples were finished in two-tone black and silver with a red stripe below the blend line. Exterior equipment includes removable glass T-top roof panels, pop-up headlights, side marker lights, fender air vents, sport mirrors, and quad taillights. The selling dealer tells us that the area around the driver fender flag badge shows evidence of blending. The hood decal exhibits patina and paint cracks on the front bumper cover are shown in the gallery. A complete set of GM reproduction decals accompany the vehicle.

The 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels are mounted with 225/60/15 Futura GLS Super Sport white-letter tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted discs.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in silver leather along with a color-matching dash, center console, door panels, and carpeting. Interior amenities include an AM/FM eight-track stereo, an electric rear defogger, a remote driver mirror, power windows, a tilting steering column, air conditioning, and pull out shade for rear storage area.

The telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. Gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level are located in the center stack. The clock does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, approximately 800 of which were added under current ownership.

The 350ci L48 V8 was factory rated at 185 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The battery was replaced in 2025.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a Positraction differential. The seller tells us that a Borla cat-back exhaust system has been fitted.
