Netflix star Mia McKenna-Bruce has revealed that she broke her foot on set in the middle of filming Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials series.

The Bafta-winning actress, 28, starred as the lead character, Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, in the new adaptation of the crime novel alongside an all-star cast including Martin Freeman, Helena Bonham Carter and Nabhaan Rizwan.

Much like any Christie drama, there are plenty of action sequences as our plucky amateur detective Bundle attempts to track down who murdered her lover, Gerry (played by Corey Mylchreest).

Whether jumping, diving, dodging or full-pelt running – it’s an active role.

Now, the Persuasion actor has shared that ‘in usual Mia chaos fashion I broke my foot. Tripping over thin air mid scene’, with six weeks of action-filled shooting still left to go.

‘[We] needed a superhero to save the day. And as if by magic, I have a little sister who looks like my twin. [Ellis] literally saved the show, stepping in to become my body double and we had an absolute blast while doing it,’ she wrote in a caption on Instagram.

She also shared several images of her time on set with her sister including the pair of them in mathcing Bundle costumes, Ellis on set preparing for a scene and her booted foot resting atop her sister’s lap.

Meanwhile, her sister commented: ‘Best time ever!!!! Would do it all over again’

This is not the first time Mia has injured herself during shooting for a show. While filming for the 2022 Peacock series Vampire academy, she also broke her ankle, this time off set.

When asked by Cool America Mag what role she has found the most challenging in her career, she chose her time on the supernatural series as Mia Karp.

She said: ‘[Mia] is American first of all. So, doing an (American) accent always adds more of a challenge.

‘I also broke my ankle during the shoot (not actually on set) which made things a lot harder as I had to film for 4 months unable to walk and with a cast on my leg!!’

This time around, despite the setback of not being able to film certain scenes, she had an absolutely hoot playing Bundle.

‘For me [Bundle’s] love of people, her ability to connect with each person and [for them to] really mean something to her [connected with me],’ she told Metro about what resonated with her about the character.

As for what it was like having Helena Bonham Carter as her TV mum, she said she soaked in ‘so many gems of wisdom. She is like a master class in all things, as a human, as an actor.’

She continued: ‘One of the main things that I’ve taken away is that she has an energy basket of snacks to make sure she’s got her energy up at all times.

‘She has the best snacks on the go, and we all took them and ran with them and made our own little snack basket. Everywhere I go, I need my snacks.’

Seven Dials is streaming on Netflix now.
