Workers under the platform of Federal Workers Forum, FWF, have described the recent arrest of Taiwo Hassan, also known as Soweto, as unjust and unconstitutional.

The group made this declaration while reacting to the arrest of the human rights activist in Lagos.

DAILY POST reports that some residents of Lagos State on Wednesday protested against the demolition of structures in Makoko and other areas in the state.

It was learnt that Hassan was arrested by the police during the protest. Our correspondent gathered that he has not been released as at the time of filing this report on Thursday.

National Coordinator of FWF, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, and General Secretary, Comrade Ogundele Ayo, condemned the arrest in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday.

They called for immediate and unconditional release of the activist.

“The Federal Workers Forum joins millions of homeless and destitute Nigerians to strongly condemn the unjust and provocative arrest of Comrade H. T. Soweto.

“This arrest is baseless and represents a direct attack on the constitutional rights of Nigerians to peacefully protest against unjust and anti-people policies of the ruling government.

“We therefore demand the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade H. T. Soweto and all others arrested, an immediate halt to all house demolitions, and the adoption of people-oriented policies that prioritize affordable housing, dignity, and social justice,” the statement said.
